the older clubs, col n afterdark etc.. are different to the new skool ones, more bouncey n more happy hardcore stuff

with the new clubs been more faster n hardcore, with different style mc's

i like both, but i prefer the newer style

Ive mentioned this subject before, I thought the Colloseum was shit after around the 1st few weeks of opening, real good to start with, seemed to be an upcoming club. Then all of a sudden wankers lots of them. Repetative toons, just about every resident DJ had the exact same stuff.
This went on not for weeks but years, DJ's had no control over what they were allowed to play, IT HAD TO BE CHEESE, as requested by J Robb himself, if a DJ did try something different there was the familiar words spoken
"Nee man , its to hard ya little scunner"

I was up in the DJ box with a good Buddy DJ Ten, and he was told that he was playing too ard, LOL Stuart didnt really give a fuck, told me yeah watch this, and played the tune "Hard as Hell" Mr executive DJ man DJ NRG looked like he wa about to cry :)

I attended the Colloseum from the very beginning for around 3-4 years, for the simple reason it had killed off local smaller clubs, and there was nowhere else to go. Maybe I was spoiled as I went to the original clubs such as Afterdark, Hysteria, Venue, Rezerection etc, to me the Colloseum was about what The Management wanted (mainly somewhere to pedal drugs) not what the punters and DJ's wanted.

Also what sort of idiot puts a club in Blue Hall, doomed from the start

I used to go to the colosseum and i remember the story about the bouncers dumping the body in the garden and it was dj creator who died an asthma attack and the raid was on the news at the time my brother was on it getting locked up lol.People who prefer the monkey and hanger better than the colosseum/afterdark/hysteria etc are people who are now into the scene or can get into these clubs but never witnessed or went to any of these clubs thats why when they do polls they are more favourites to win it (monkey/hanger).

i could tell horror stories about all the clubs i,ve worked at, i think the only club i,ve worked at the was run properly and safe is diztruxsion.
meanwhile back at the colloseum......
d,j, creator did not die at the colloseum, the poor lad had a asthma attack at home, the colloseum had a tribute night for him.
as for music policy....i played a big part in the running of the club and at one point i actually ran it,..some d.j,s played cheese, some d.j,s played hard. the only time d,j,s were asked to turn it down was the likes of loftgroover ect (he used to mix mega death metal in with his hardcore) good d.j, s they kept the job right.
the colloseum crowd were class, when the club closed at the end of the night (morning) the dancefloor was still bouncing, that just does not happen anymore........

Collosseum was brilliant, i used to have about 50 odd tapes, gutted that most have either been lsot, stolen from my car by mates :@ over time, ive heard of variety of diffrent sets and to be honest it was a brilliant time around the collosseum days its a pity it had to close, but it did, imo id say the colo is better than the monkey it was a total diffrent atmopshere in all ways, bring back the bounce hehe

colluseum had the best music policy of all the rave clubs that have been in the north east imo loft groover/marc smith/slipmat/mzone/mixmatt/phaze/dj ten/bass generator, and most of the residents had thier own styles excell/charlie/delay/attack/full effect

bouncers and maagement were dodgy but so what 95% of the punters loved the place

and the little fellas where at thier peak then

has thier been better pills than the dollars or the dimond backs?

For all the people who never witnessed the colosseum, listen to any of the tapes and you will know what it was like, they had fusion nights, judgement day tours, i dont think there was any scottish band/dj who never went there!!

Im not too sure about the real reason but from what i think it was because of the people who lived there (not in the colosseum off course but the neighbours who lived around the building) as when it opened on the night and when they were all going in the morning there was a lot of noise from cars,minibuses and taxis as well as the people leaving the club, the trouble they had with the police when it got raided etc and the trouble they got from when someone overdosed or something.When the colosseum got raided my brother was on the news getting carried away by the police lol.I think the news went as the colosseum got a bad name for all the stuff that happened and it was just a "drug club" as people would say but then again when raves first came out in the 90`s they tried to ban all off them as they knew people would be off there heads on drugs and thats why there was a lot of it in the newspapers and when someone died off taking xtc it was rave related but the truth is when you take xtc - it boils down to 2 things
1 - your immune system - some peoples body cant handle them.
2 - dodgy pills
I remember a few years ago they used to put smack in pills,had pills that just make you hallucinate (basically acid) etc
When i first started raving back in 94/95 powerhouse manhattans redcar i used to buy 1 pill £10 (depending who you got them off as some where £15)
id take half and half way through the night id do the other half but they were like pure mdma back then and ever since people ( who make them) theyve just messed about with them thats why theyre not as strong (when you do them) unless you take a brake from doing them and just do them on certain occasions.

Another good point there - didnt i put that in my essay lol.
Any1 who does take them remember to have rests, drink plenty of water and if you do fall ill dont be scared to tell the paramedics - it will save time and could save your life.
