2002 without a doubt, the tunes were better, the mc's were on top form more often and you had a better seletion each week, not just ur ronez, turbo d nd scotty j each nd eavery week ( no disrespect to those mc's but it just gets borin hearin the same each and every time).

I think the best year at the monkey would have to be as earliest as possible to be honest (Jet, Techno T etc). I think the atmosphere in there was much better then, probably caused by all the stories over the years of people getting taxed etc so people tend to keep themselves to themselves in there now

Also, these were the days when there werent many DJ's, i remember buzzin getting tunes like enchantment, rainbow 2, these days i reckon 3/4 of the people in there are DJ's and everyone knows just about every tune that gets played now.

Also back then there wasnt much demand for tunes, so it was pointless bringing out represses/bootlegs as there wasnt much money to be made, and shops like Reflex got hardly any customers. Im not really saying this is a good or bad thing as i buy represses on proper labels like X-Que myself (but fuck these shit quality bootlegs i cant understand why people buy them - there not worth the vinyl there pressed on!)

even when it first started it wasn't that good that whole side of the rave scene was going down coz the last few afterdarks were canny shit compared to what it was like whaen i first started going,
