Wots everyones think of the gemini gear, IE mixer's dex..
Jus lookin at the XL-500 mk2 and the PS-676i mixer wiv a sampler.. Looks smart as fuk! if u covered up the badge and covered up the them silver technics 1200 badge, nobody cud tel the diffrence! i rekon!
I like the new silver finish on the gemini stuff now. Always use to be matt black wiv the number plastered rite across!
But anyways iv found em for a total of £445 (2 x DEX & 1 x MIXER) , Wot they lyk for that price?? Will they be a nice pair of direct's an mixer for that?? or cud anyone recoment any better?
Cheers Lads

hav u tried vasilene(sp?) on the slide thing the Xfader runs along? cos that fixed mine a few times.. it always seems to b the left side that fucks up.. i could still hear my right deck too.. the vasilene fixed it tho as well as pushing the sides of the xfader together.. put a bit on a match stick just a little and slide it along the run thing the xfader runs along.. it could do the trick

Ive got a gemini fx 7000 mixer like which is quality but the exact same thing happened to me with the cross fader that happened to mental raver, put it on the left side and you could still hear the right side, only had it about 3 days aswell lol, ended up sendin it back and they sent a new 1 which is fine so far, they should make the crossfaders a bit betta cos thats normally the 1st thing that goes wrong with them

yeah, made better or they should b made cheaper cos they break so damn easly, especially if u do a lot of cutting up while mixing like me.. i go throu a couple each year.. pretty daft really, im not that heavy handed with them either.. i think they make them only to last a few months cos then they kno u gotta buy new xfaders or a new mixer altogether.. i wish i hadnt sold me technics :(

dunno wot u guys are all rantin about....ive had a pair of kam ddx680's for 5 years now and they still goin strong...i use them to mix all of my shows on networks radio and have never had a problem...as for the new gemini mixers...i use a ps676i with the sampler on...its fuckin perler i gotta say....sampler is wkd quality and i think theyve improved the faders alot since the new versions came out...i rag mine to bits and the xfade and all the channels stuill work...budget gear dont mean its shit...as long as u look after it and treat it well it will last for years and years to come !!

Me Brothers got a pair of geminis and they are cack. You cant beat technics n i reckon pioneer do the best mixers but if your skint have a look at the packages on www.htfr.com gemini xl500 mk IIs are cheapish £389 with a gemini mixer (ps540i).But look at some of the numark turntables they are gettin a lot better these days. They do finance aswell.

I got first hand experience of gemini equipment, I started off with a starter pack - the SA600II (old equivalent to the one you mentioned) with a PS540i.
The decks were fine to start off with, but i soon grew out of them and bought some technics as the torque was just too poor - its not that they look like technics its how they perform. I also have had the same problem the lads above had had with their mixers cross faders, so have replaced it with a middle of the range stanton SMX501 (no rane empath but not bad for £300). This mixer has penny and giles faders which i'm happy with as their quality is great. I'm sure you could get a decent mixer for less than this 2nd hand - I saw a Vestax pcv275 (a wicked quality 3 channel mixer) going for £160 odd on ebay!
So my advice is save up for a decent set of equipment, i wish i had done and not wasted my money in the first place on the starter set as i dont use them any more! i bought my technics for 400 bar which isn't a bad deal, if you look about i'm sure you could get a set with a mixer and everything too. The higher quality equipment may be more expensive, but on the other hand it won't devalue as the crappy budget stuff that you will have just lying around.
Its also worth considering some of the newer up and coming decks which are cheaper and supposedly better than technics (we've all heard the argument). the decks i've come to believe are worth looking at are:
Numark TTX1
Vestax PDX2000
Stanton STR8100
check these out, just make sure you research in to what you buy accordingly (ie check if its ok if its second hand)- you wont regret it later.
