Out of all of the Music Production programs there is ..the easiest would with-out a doubt would be Fruity Loops.
Were most people go wrong is they dont have enough samples and are using the bog standard fruity ones and then get frustrated.
You need to sit and plug away at Fruity to get the most out of it.Maybe if you get sick of Fruity you can move on to Cubase or Reason.
Im in the process of trying to figure Cubase out, and first impressions are not good, seems very fiddly when your so used to Fruity, thats my opinion anyway.
And if you decide to get in2 this game make sure you find some decent vst`s and Midi Files.
Few vst`s you can start with are : Vanguard , Z3ta, Nexus and Juno.
As for samples..theres a Pack called Vengeance. It has just about every dance sound you can find.

with cubase all there is to learn is how to strap vsts in , and wat all the proccesses are. then ya more advanced stuff like sidechaining but that all comes after the basics, all esey after a while..... quick 10 min tutorials on you tube or even by the dvd

fruity is the easiest its more than capable of producing the same results as a track produced in cubase but without all the fiddly bits, everything ya do in cubase seems a fuck on if ya already used to fruity.

As Forcer says everything seems to be a right fuck on getting sorted with Cubase.Personally I would go for Fruity to start off with..then maybe move to Cubase.
As for Vsts ..Fruity makes it a lot easier IMO

or yer wile ime on the subject... every one says cubase is fiddly ... but correct me if ime wrong dont you always have to use the sampler in fruty for audio??? .. i cubase u just shot your samples vocals and even drum beats srate onto the time line with out even touthing a vst or the key editor/piano roll. :thumb:

dont use fl studio man fuckin ell haha , cubase is easier anyway , once ya no how its piss easy , ull have rewire capabilitys aswell usin reason and ableton and even fl studio , the stretch tool is the best ever , u jus drag it to fit
cubase and logic hav much more sonic capabilities than sumthin that fl studio , u get better quality basically
as for pro tools its more for rock based and recordin , no good for dance wots loop based
i wud suggest usin cubase or logic (5.5 for pc) or acid
i hav a legit copy ov cubase LE u can hav if u promise not to use fl studio , ill even help ya get started
no effence to fl studio users but its fuckin shit and i know wot im talkin bout coz im doin a degree in music production
so take my advice , logic pro 5.5 , cubase sx 3 , reason 3 or acid pro 6 (jus to start then onto a better one)

im using FL Studio for drum n bass and hphop and im also trying to learn Reason 3, but its difficult and i don't really like it. FL is much easier for beginner and it has tons of plugins, so it's good enuf for PC
regarding the original post, check these out
Digidesign - Pro Tools LE or M-Powered (Mac or PC)
Steinberg - Cubase SX (Mac or PC)
Ableton - Live (Mac or PC)
Cakewalk - Sonar (PC)
Magix - Sequoia (PC)
Propellerheads - Reason (Mac or PC)
Magix - Samplitude (PC)
Cakewalk - FL Studio (PC)
Synapse Audio - Orion Pro (PC)
Cockos - Reaper (PC )
Magix - Music Maker (PC)
Various - The CM Studio (Mac or PC )
programs capable of 'beat-making' i suggest you try out the demo versions where you can get em, as no one can tell you what the best program will be for you
hp this helps

reason is amazin like a love it to bits , subtractor is amazin

blaze... i cant speak for cubase, but why arent you using a sampler for every samlpe you use? the fruity sampler is very basic but it's not even classed as a VST its just a channel... i stopped using the fruity 'sampler' and use a VST sampler as the results are much better.
doddsy... fl studio has re-wire capability, and i no u do no what ur talking about but fl is not shit. check out tracks from www.karlg.dj this bloke uses nothing but fruityloops and gets his tracks played at places like global gathering... check out 'breakfast' on www.flashoverrecordings.com this kid uses nothing but fruityloops and is signed to ferry corstens label.
at the end of the day its the producer that has the skill not the program. I just always preach fruity because i know its far easiest to learn, people are put off by its childish gui but whats an interface? fuck all...
only thing i'll agree on with cubase is that it's sound quality is better than fruityloops and it supports hardware far better than fruity. IMO it takes a little more work to get better sound quality in fruity but when learning thats not even an issue.

i agree on that, amazing program.. i wish i still had it. the only let down is the sequencer you always needed to be very precise. i would choose this over fruity and cubase.

well forcer i know u love fl studio like but i jus think its a shame u wont move up , u can do so much more wiv cubase or logic , it only means u have to learn again but u know the ins and owts so it wont take long , i have changed sequencer loads ov times and when ya start wiv a new one ya allways slow , ya dont seem to feel comfortable and ya struggle , but why settle for 2nd best . ive went from ...
acid - fl studio - reason - sonar - acid again - cubase - logic (with reason)
so i know wot its like , unless uve tried them all , how can u say 1 is the best or the easiest , cubase is easier than fl studio full stop , i completed my 1st ever tune on cubase , a thing ive never been able to do on any other sequencer , although am close on logic now , i dont no everything and it comes down to opinions and preference , but forcer i do honestly think ur to good for fl studio havin listened to ya work

reasons synths arent VST's so are only usable within reason. but if you get reason you can re-wire it into fruityloops and use it that way, it works quite well aswell.
or you could try this..

its based on the SubTractor.. freeware aswell

You could rant on for days about whats the best ..just use what your comfortable with.
I just prefer Fruity for the ease of use...and probably will always use it.
Ive managed to get the videos for Cubase ... so maybe give that a chance.

forcer....... i use a sampler for my kicks, open hats on the off beat, and fast closed hats.....everything else i just past strate onto the time line so i can add the effects directly on cubase.......dose fruity allow you to use effects on midi, after the vst instrument? ... cubase dosent(a horrible flaw with cubase).....you have to export the midi sequence and synth as audio then add the effects...so in most cases it is esyer to just past it strate on the time line ..

put the .dll in your VstPlugins folder, tht will either be in program files or the image-line/fl-studio folder..
then go to channels in fruity > add one > more... click refresh at the bottom and it should appear in red, tick the little box n then click off.. the synth shud then be in ur list of channels to add

aye mate as far as i can remember u can add effects to anything in fruity using the effects mixer.. i think it has up to 64 fx channels and u just choose a channel then apply any fx to that channel.
