Aye well hes had his day you can't honestly say hes as good as he used to be? The only old skool MCs who can hack it these days are Hype and Stompin both amazing live the rest are shite Ace,Tazo,Tnt,Scotty Jay,Stretch,Impulse etc are technically much better than the old MC's with much longer, complicated rhymes and better timing. Attack/G Force for example have got no flow they say a basic ryhme then do a couple shout outs theres no flow lol thats what you need these days.

mceeeing isnt about rocking each other or complicated rhymes its about motivating the crowd from time to time and bigging people up. half the mcees these days are total shite, daft rhymes about dodgy coppers and drug dealers fucking shite in my opinion. gimme a colosseum set any day. no mcees these days in the northe east will be as remembered as the colosseum/aftrerdark lot. as for gforce being shite u should check his profile and read all the venues hes performed at, hes a proper respected mc, not just sum waxa rarvie with lyrics.

Times change mate G-Force,Attack etc aren't remotely popular anymore just with the old-skool ravers, I think the fact that Stompin is still right at the top shows he is the best old skool MC no one else has kept up with him. Its your opinion Mcs aren't about lyrics/rhymes but most people would disagree, I think it takes more skill/talent to come up a rhyme like Scotty Jays 'Herion Addiction' than say one of Attacks basic rhymes you not agree?

All down to opinions really. You'll probably find most the people who are sayin he is shit will be not much older than 18/20 (I'm only 18 myself btw) cause they have been listenin to the newer mc's from the start. I think the new style kinda goes better with makina than the old school style, fast rhymes going with the fast pace of makina. IMO though, MCing should be about hypin the crowd and knowin when to let the music do the talkin!

As people said, just look at where G-Force has done the business on the mic and you will see is not 'shit'...he might not be some people's cup of tea but he isn't 'shit'.

IMO, the older style of basic rhymes and getting the crowd into it is what I prefer but I'm not gona come out and say Ace, Tazo, TNT etc are shite. The opposite infact, when I first got into New Monkey/Hangar stuff I was listening to those MC's and lovin it. (I'm in Glasgow btw so it's not easy to get stuff up here until I found this site).

Over time though I have grown to liking the older style of MCing better but as I said, its really all down to opinions!

I must admit I've not been on the site for a long time, but thought I'd pop on and see how Daz was doing. As soon as I saw the thread I thought 'Oh Shit', but thought I've gotta have a read.

I must admit it was kinda funny reading the question, but fukk did I laugh. :D

Anyway, thanks for all the support from those who stuck up for me, much appreciated, and respect. ;)

And for those that didnt let me just say this, and hopefully answer your questions and doubts.

I started MC'ing at 16 years old, 15 years ago now, and at a time when MC's were pretty much unheard of up and down the country, nevermind the North East.

It was 1989/90 and the rave scene was just gaining popularity within small underground sections throughout the country, it was feeding off the back off a big indie boom in Manchester.

The Happy Mondays, Stone Roses etc were putting Manchester on the map, as was the infamous club 'Hacienda'. Designer drugs like the ones around today were taking off in a big way and a new form of music was needed to cater for growing band of 'ravers'.

The Hacienda in Manchester, Quadrant Park in Liverpool, and The Eclipse in Coventry became the hottest clubs in the country and born legends such as Dj Sasha, Carl Cox, Grooverider and Fabio, Top Buzz, Nipper, and one of my Idols, MC Man Parris.

Blackburn started the first of the 'illegal' allnight raves, when the police managed to finally bust these outdoor parties, ravers would drive to the nearest service stations to meet up, this became legendary as hundreds, even thousands would flood the forecourts partying on all night, the Police were powerless.

Shiit, those were the days.

The Eclipse in Coventry was the first allnighter in the country, they held Amnesia House nights there, 5 thousand people crammed into an aircraft hanger, honestly I dont have the words to explain how unbelievable it was back then, the atmosphere was electric.

Back then there was no trouble at all, people weren't paranoid, they were loved up on pure Mdma, which is the chemical name for 'E'. Back in those days thats exactly what 'E's were, pure Mdma, its a very expensive drug and the reason why the designer drugs of today have none at all in them.

The rave scene was becoming big, there was no house or garage really back then in the UK, it was big in the States but not here, that didnt come till much later.

Myself and my mates would travel to Coventry, Manchester or Shelleys lazerdome in Stoke on Trent every week, it was unbelievable, I was only 16 and they were the best days of my life.

The first clubs in the North-East were the Club Havana in Middlesbrough and Jason Bushbys Big Beat at Philmores in Saltburn. Both clubs rivalled each other but had different followings, but they were both fantastic clubs with unique atmospheres that I've never witnessed since. :D

Philmores didnt really have an MC of note but Club Havana had MC Lee, a bloke called Lee Harrison and a huge influence on me picking up a microphone.

I remember going to Club Havana and having to queue for hours, it was one of the biggest club nights in the country at this time but only had a capacity for about 400 at most, the place was tiny, but fukk did it rock.

I used to just stare at MC Lee, it seems weird now after MC'ing for so long but makes you kind of realise why people act the way they do when you meet them. To me I'm no different to anyone else, but people look up to you for what you do and that sort of thing always embarresses me, but thinking back now, I was exactly the same.

I first got on the mic at an under 18's night at Macmillans in Yarm, which is now the Tall Trees. My mate from school Dj Marcus, was running the night, he was only 17 but was knocking about with the Dj's from Club Havana and was getting pretty good himself.

The nights were packed out, and one particular night a little black kid called Leroy from Middlesbrough was there and went on the Mic and copied MC Lee.

He was only about 9 years old but fukk could he rap and dance, he actually danced live on stage at an all nighter in Cramington in front of about 10,000 people, he was 10 then.

Anyway, I thought that looked easy, it wasnt, I was crap, but there was no-one else so I kinda got away with it. :D

I did a few of these nights for my mate and loved it, the buzz was unreal, you lose that buzz after a few years, and back then I would do anything just to get a go on the mic.

The first time I met Jason Bushby, my good friend, whom I've known right from the start, was at his night in Saltburn, the Big Beat at Philmores. I was told by a friend that his nights were wicked, and that they didnt really have an MC, so I thought I'd have a look down and just try and blag my way on. lol :D

Fukk I was keen back then. lmao. :D

Anyway, Philmores in Saltburn was miles away from where I lived in Yarm, and I didnt have a car, or anyone to go with, but that wasnt going to put me off.

I remember getting a bus from Yarm to Redcar, it took about an hour and a half but it was the only bus on a Friday night going anywhere near Saltburn.

I got off the bus in Redcar and just ran down the beach for two miles until I got to the club. By the time I'd got there the queues were massive, coaches had arrived from Leeds and Sheffield and I was certain I wasnt going to get in.

Luckily I did, eventually, and that night changed my fortunes forever. :)

I got into the club and it was packed to the rafters, both floors, but I remember thinking that it wasnt exactly 'kickin' like I was told, but there was a reason for that, and my initial worries were answered later.

I remember having a blast on the fruit machine and winning about £15, so I thought I buy myself a 'little fella', and I'll never forget what happened after that.

I was sat down talking to some girl who was getting her tiits massaged with vicks by some complete stranger, I was starting to love the place.

Then the little fella kicked in like an orgasm of the brain, I was fooked, totally smashed and then it happened.

Jason Bushby, as a trademark, would play an old air-raid siren at exactly 12'oclock, or maybe 11, either way he played it. He did it to indicate that the night was about to kick off, and fook did it.

Everybody stood up and got up on tables and chairs, and waited for the air-raid siren to end, as soon as it did he dropped the huge club anthem of the time Rofo's theme, the place went beserk.

By this time I was off it, and game enough to try anything, so I walked up to Jason Bushby, told him I was MC G-Force, Dj Marcus's MC, and could I have a go on the mic.

Anyway the blagg worked, I got on, and was invited down every week thereafter, or should I say I just turned up everyweek and he let me in for free and I went on. lol.

It was an unbelievable buzz, and something you only get when you first start, luckily for me it was right at the beginning of the 'rave boom', so I was laughing. :D

During those nights at Philmores I was approached by a guy called Stevie Lloyd wanting me to MC in his new club in Stockton called The Eclipse, ironically the same name as my favourite club in Coventry. He told me he was opening the first all-nighter in the North East, and he wanted me there, I was as happy as a pig in shiit and readily accepted.

The Eclipse opened, but the first night was surprisingly quiet and it was for a further few weeks after that, it wasnt really advertised properly.

I asked Ste if I could do the flyers and the promotion myself to see if we could get it busier, I was only 17 but loved the thought of running the night myself. I put together a line up of Dj's that I'd always dreamt of working with, and also the best Dj's from each area.

I called it the North East Elite, I had Smokey Joe and Bass Generator from Newcastle, Dj Dom from Darlington, Jason Busby, Dj Adam from the Havana and a young lad who had never Dj'ed anyway before but reminded me of Dj Sasha called Dj Destroy.

The night was rammed packed, from 400 we got 1300 and the job was mine. ;)

It was unreal, I was booking all the big Dj's I'd always dreamt of working with from up and down the country and having them on my night, and I was MC'ing for them, it didnt come any better.

By this time I was getting work all over the country and did the Galacticas at York Racecourse and Ripon Racecourse in front of 10,000 plus, and I was still only 17/18, that was crazy.

From then on I was involved in the opening and running of every allnighter in the North East and gave many of the 'old school' Dj and Mc names you hear today their first breaks.

The After Dark in Sunderland and The Venue in Spennymoor were next, then the Collesium and After Dark in sheilds.

Over the years I did pretty much everywhere, and although the buzz wasnt quite the same I still enjoyed it.

At one time I was working at least 3 nights per week and up to 5 nights on Bank Holidays. I was doing two or three clubs a night but all the main ones.

About 5 years ago or more I decided that I was pretty much burnt out with it all and decided only to work the bigs gigs, or once a month at most.

I've been there and done it all over the years, there is nothing left to do, I've worked with all the biggest names in the business, and for me personally it will never be like it was years ago.

As for my MC'ing, technically I wont get any better, I've reached the pinnacle, its like anything, the longer you do it, the more you learn.

I'm not big headed, far from it, I dont see myself as anyone special but what I do know is there is nothing you can tell me about the art of MC'ing.

I was the first in the North of England to really make a name for himself bar MC Lee, I've done it the hard way but I've paid my dues, and I'm still around today.

The reason I dont MC more regulary these days is because I've done it all, there is nothing for me to prove and I have other interests now , I'm playing alot of football and I'm a huge boxing fan and write for my mates website, Ricky Hatton.

I also have my son every weekend and any week I work a gig I cant have him as its a whole 'weekender; thing with me. :D

I hope I've answered all your questions, and for those who havent seen me and doubt what I can do, all I ask is you make your way to the Powerhouse under 18's night and see if you feel the same way after I'm done with ya. ;)

Take care, and stay safe.....

And Jts, your probably right mate, I could certainly write a book with some of the crazy stories I've been involved in over the years.

Cheers chaps, respect reciprocated ;0)

I thought you would enjoy that little story ;0)

And Jts, your probably right mate, I could certainly write a book with some of the crazy stories I've been involved in over the years.

Lying on my back, smashed to bits, on a table, on stage at the Galactica with only a thin curtain hiding me from the 10,000 ravers in front of me.

If that curtain had of fallen, shiit, its not worth thinking about, I was supposed to be on with Dj Belly, and I couldnt even see. lol.

I've got a video from one of the Galacticas. Quality ain't very good but it certainly looked a good do. Don't think you're on the vid mate (unless you looked different in your younger days). Aye would be good if you did a book, particularly if you've got old photos from the events you've done and flyers, etc. Also, just out of interest, were you the one responsible for getting Kev Techno T on the mic or was he in it from the very beginning like yourself?

Look forward to hearing from you,

JTS.

Respect for that mate I wasn't saying you were shit, I think the best set I've ever heard you do was New Years Eve 98 at the Afterdark you were b2b with Stompin and Scott was on the decks was my favourite tape for a few months lol. I just dont think any the old skool MCs Techno T,Attack,Jet, etc are as good as they used to be in their prime apart from Stompin. Respect anyway ;)

James -

I think Techno T came after G-force might be wrong though.

No offence taken mate, like someone rightly said its all about opinion, and peoples differ, technically though, its as good as its gets.

As for Kev Techno T, I first saw him at a Sunday all-day session down in Doncaster at a place called the Hacienda. It was for all the ravers the went to the Doncaster Warehouse allnighter the night before.

I dont think he was MC'ing then though, it was at the time of the After Dark Sunderland, as thats what I'd done the night before.

I first saw Kev on the Mic in the After Dark not long before it closed, and we have been friends since.

Fucking hell jimmy lad,Them posts didnt half bring back memorys mate. You could easy write a book about the north east rave sceen.
quote ,

I used to just stare at MC Lee, it seems weird now after MC'ing for so long but makes you kind of realise why people act the way they do when you meet them. To me I'm no different to anyone else, but people look up to you for what you do and that sort of thing always embarresses me, but thinking back now, I was exactly the same. ......

When i was sweet 15/16 i used to stand in the after dark (sunderland) and just stare at you and baz rhyme thinking someday thats what i want to do.You were my idle back then mate.I never thought for one second we would become good freinds. My brother used to listen to ub40 and used to say whats that shit your listening too..Dj destroy & mc g force.Wicked & wild..The best rave tapes i ever owned..Jimmy do you still have any old tapes in your collection..

Hey Carl whats up bud ? :)

Its been far too long mate, how's it going ? my scratchmaster king ? :D

As for the Wicked and Wild tapes, or any tapes for that matter, I dont have any, they have all been given away, all the thousands of tapes and CD's I'ce done over the years and I dont have one. :D

I can get hold of a few of the Wicked and Wild tapes, my mate has over 1000 old skool tapes, I did have a copy of wicked and wild 7 recently, but it was lent out and never seen again, much like the others. :D

I can get hold of one for you though pal, the one in Grangetown, that was the best and it all happened by accident, after one of the craziest nights I'd ever had, I'd been in hospital only hours before, and that was after I'd done a gig in Trimdon.

I think I'll be adding some more stories to this thread whilst I'm off work, I'm sure I'll get that one in somewhere. ;)

No matter what anyone says, jimmy is a legend, always has been and always will be. He hasnt lost it or isnt shit. He has an individual style of MCing that went along with the tunes of his era. Like someone said, the tunes and scene has evolved over the years, and a new style of DJ's and MC's has appeared. Both old and new are unique in there own way, so you cant argue sayin that they arent like the MC's of today.

You may not like it but its true, them 4 mcs above have been around and have done it all.

nice one mate you hit the nail rite on the head there like i totally agree anyway ill get back to this.

Fuckinhell Jimmy some interesting reading in them posts like fuckin mad. Wish id been old enough to enjoy the rave scene back then sounds class. First time i saw ya was the first dance nation at Blacketts on a bank holiday Monday day! (If ya remember that)!

It was the best buzz ever the first time I saw you, Daz Attack and Techno T who id been listenin to on tapes since i was 12. Fuckin mint! Ever since ive been following you's across the north east!

back 2 the new/old mc talk, personally i think most of the new mcs r absolutly shite it is mental torture to listen to them id rather them not be on the tape and just listen to the music that is how bad they are! Unlike the original mcs (which actually sound good) no when to shut the fuck up, no how to actually interact with the crowd and get the place buzzin. As for people sayin stompin and hype are the only two who still rock well Jimmy rocks as good as them if not better. If you see him live youll know what I mean.

Wow !! you got me all embarressed again :o your too kind. ;)

As for the different styles of MC'ing, for me I've changed with every style over the years, and you can only MC as fast the the tunes let you.

So you have to be arcticulate and go with the flow so to speak. Wicked and Wild, Undisputed Champions and The Dream Team tapes with Jase Bushby all had different styles to cater for the variation in tunes.

Many MC's today have no variation, its one style for all, and you cant do that and be technically sound.

The bouncy, happy style I use now is the product of many years and many styles combined, I know personally that I've never MC'ed better than what I do now and I've improved over the years the get to this stage.

The style I use now flows with the music, the pitch in voice changes with the chords in the tunes to blend in and sound as one, for me this is how my idols do it and for me personally its how it should be done.

I answered a question in another thread on what it takes to make a good MC, here check it out if you missed it, saves me writing it again. :D

1. Clarity - Without this your rhymes and raps are pointless.

2. Timing - Without question the most technical aspect of MC'ing, timing is crucial, you need to know exactly when to start and when to stop.

3. Rhymes and Raps - Once you have mastered to first two, your raps and rhymes will have the base to be heard in their full glory.

4. Tone of voice and variety - You need to be able to MC in many different ways to cater for all variations of dance music - Rave, Makina, Hardcore, Italian, House, Happy Hardcore etc etc. Its not one style fits all, you need to be articulate.

The cream of the MC's in this country all use their voice to change with the tone or melody of the tune, MC Storm and MCMC are great examples. Very few MC's in the North East change the tone in their voice to compensate the music, without this the tone in voice becomes montoneous. MC Turbo D is very good at this, his style is a variation on how they do it in the South East, its how it should be done.

Originality is great, but I know alot of MC's whose styles are taken from MC's from other parts of the country and used it to great effect. There is nothing wrong with that, as for ravers in the North East, its new to them anyway.

Every MC today will have taken their inspiration from another MC, its how it works, if you can bring a new style to the table then great, if not, just make your own variation on your idols, but write your own lyrics.

5. Repetiveness, awareness and choice of lyrics - Its not a race to see how many words you can get out, its all about complementing the DJ. Always remember its the DJ thats the man here, your simply an extension of his music and mixing ability, a voice for his work.

The club will still rock without an MC, but it wont without the Dj, always remember that.

Always be aware whilst the DJ is in the mix, there is nothing worse than an MC spoiling a great mix by never shutting up, and DJ's wont appreciate it, so be wary. Always-highlight a good mix or great scratching ( Dj Trouble ;0) ) and vary your raps and rhymes without becoming repetative in the same set.

Try and start your raps on the first beat of the first bar and end on the last beat before the break, continuing to rap over a breakdown is technically poor. You can start your rap or Rhyme on a breakdown, this is probably the hardest skill to get right and your timing has to be perfect, and it takes a lot of experience to pull it off correctly. But if you get it right, and finish the last word of your rap just before the beat kicks back in, then it sounds awesome.

Your rhymes should be timed to end on any break, if its 8 beats before great, if its 16, no problem either, just make sure you get the timing right and you'll get the best effect from your work.

Anybody can get up on a mic and shout, rap, rhyme, whatever, nonstop, thats easy. But its not about that, its about being clever with your lyrics, using them to their maxium effect, thats what makes a great MC.

Hope this helps ..........

Respect and Laterz

Fookin hell Jimmy!!!!!! That's the most sensible thing I've EVER heard you say!!!!

When I was DJ'ing at The Venue, Chalrlie, Lee Foster and myself kinda took Danny (Stompin') under our wings and "taught" him exactly what you describe so elequently. He took onboard our advice (and threats of violence) and he went on to become an MC that even I could work with.

I'm not a big fan of MC's, but in certain clubs they do make a big difference. The problem has always been that the MC often thinks he's more important than the music. This is fuelled by the fact that five million Ben Sherman shirted, spotty young lads will stand at this feet and "pray" to him while he's on the mic. Tell you what...........us DJ's will just stop the music........see how long you dance for then eh????

A good MC can enhance a tune and the atmosphere in a club, but they don't have to be non-stop gobshites like lots of the current crop seem to be.

Dave Cook (MC DC) used to MC in The Blue Monkey in Sunderland back in 1992/3 and he said very little on the mic. He hardly did any rhymes, but people did like to hear his little bit of chatter and he did help to lift the crowd.

Nice to see you are still kicking about Jimmy.....not heard of you for a while. Exept when you are mentioned as a leg end on these forums!!! LOL

The scene went down hill when the Venue shut to be honest, my era was going to the afterdark then onto the Venue, when we used to goto the Afterdark we had some mad times G-Force actually knew one of the lads i used to go with a lad called (Moe) along with his brother and lisa bring back memories Jimmy or not, Jimmy has done the scene proud and he should feel proud for being part if it, nevermind little kids saying he's shit or whatever.
If it wasn't for these guys like Jimmy, Kev, and all the Dj's of that era you lot would'nt have scene to goto now (so remember).

The problem is, being a raver is only a phase you go through unless your a Dj or MC. So back in the old skool days

(g-force, techno t, attack, charlie, full effect, selector c, etc)

all of the ravers of that time have moved on. Now there's a new generation.

(tazo, ace, nitro, turbo d, chrissy g, stretch, scotty jay, etc)

along with the new generation of ravers.

So when's there's a discussion about this, most of the old ravers vote the old skool and new ravers vote the new generation. Because all of the new ravers haven't heard much of the old skool, they dont know who they are and automaticaly brand them shite.

I've been shocked by how many of my mates have moved on from rave and dont listen to it no more. Its definitly an age thing, unless your a DJ or MC.

RESPECT THE OLD SKOOL, MOVE ON AND GIVE WAY TO THE NEW GENERATION......ITS CALLED "EVOLUTION"

and the last thing before i go and iron my big market clothes, in 10 years time we'll all be saying how good tazo, ace and turbo d were and how shit the newer mc's are.....and all the new little teeny boppers will be sticking up for the newer generation......... "EVOLUTION".....

I've heard some kids coming though who have a lot of the attributes that go to make up a technically superb UK MC. and not just a good north east one.

Turbo D and Scotty J the most noticable for me, keep it up the great work dudes :D

Your the ones that may take the mantle boys, technically for me your the best from what I heard in recent years :D

But I've already told you both that and hopefully gave advice thats been worthwhile.

 just read all the responses on this like and i no its an old thread but g-force is a 100% livin legend quality mc, one man who can get any event rockin :D then theres techno-t who is my all time fave mc buzzin rhymes mad banter with the crowd, knows wen to rhyme and wen to keep it zipped another livin legend :D mc jet who in my opinion was wot the new style was bak in the days of the aftadark, wicked quick rhymes and loads of class lyrics, i agree with the majority wen they say he aint wot he used to b but he sounds like he`s just tryin to change his style which is a good thing if u wanna survive in the rave scene these days. mc hype absolutley bonkers, watchin him wen ur on the dancefloor is class, wen he`s jumpin about with his short snappy ryhmes haha, massive who dont do it much anymore but is in my eyes a classic mc, short relevant rhymes and sum1 who knows how to get the crowd goin with out tellin stories on the mic, stompin is another class act who seems to have gathered pure momentum since his afterdark days and he just blows the monkey hangar and powerhouse to bits wen he`s on the mic these days, but i also think that quite a few new skool mc`s are wicked aswell, you`ve got ace and tazo who have loads of rhymes which seem to entrance the newer ravers and thats a good thing coz it keeps the floor rockin i mean u dont see the floor clear wen there on d ya? then theres turbo-d who is on his way to bein a legend, he puts so much power into his rhymes and wen ive heard him and seen him he always looks up for the music imo, scotty jay who is brilliant with class rhymes a hard image and a big following scotty jay and stretch were class b2b one of me all time fave b2b`s coz they have immense timing and there lyrics seem to go together, impulse who is like a new style hype bouncin around with his u better check urself b4 u wreck urself rhyme i love it haha, anyway me eyes have gone square now thats my opinions on sum of the old and new skool mc`s its like alot of people said its ur opinion if u think there shit then thats fine but why keep on listenin to it if u do think there shit?

long live PHILMORES the NUMBER 1 RAVE NIGHT EVER. ask G-FORCE.

Yep, I have to agree.

Ok, so its been a long time since I last checked out this place, too long in fact. But after logging on, I decided to see if there were any more replies to this old thread, and once again, it was nice to hear the kind words, nice one, its appreciated. :)

Anyway, whilst we are on the subject of Philmores, and the fact some of you requested another story, here's another little beauty from the archives.

Thinking back now, this particular night must have been very early on in my career, in fact, at this particular time I'd probably still have classed myself as 'raver' rather than an MC, mainly because I'd just really started, and more importantly, I wasn’t getting paid.

It was another one of those unbelievably, memorable nights at Philmores in Saltburn, or more so, what happened afterwards.

The night itself had gone as it always did, crazy, with one hell of a party inside the club. I'd had a couple of these new little fella's, California Sunrise, and I was gone, and I mean smashed, I've been in some states over the years but this particular night I was on a different planet, in fact, fook that, a different freakin solar system altogether.

My memories of that night in Philmores are still a little vague, and testament to the strength of those naughty little 'Cally Sunrises'

I remember leaving the club at about 1.30am, now this was strange in itself, as at this particular time , I was keen as 'obsessed mustard' :D and the club was still in full swing, but on my 'e' buzz, I'd hatched a cunning plan, and I had my sights fully set on another mission.

Now back in the day, it was regular practice, week in, week out, you would always meet your 'new' best friends. Now these 'best' friends were really complete strangers, brought together by the drug they call ecstasy, but when you were 'loved up' on MDMA, none of that mattered, strangers became almost family, and that particular night my 'brothers' were named John something-or-other and Jimmy Ligget.

John as I remember was small and had a car, and the car bit was where he came into the plan, Jimmy Ligget on the other hand was Johns mate, I'm not sure what purpose he served at the time, but he was a welcome member of the posse that night.

To this day, I've never seen John since that night, but I did see Jimmy Ligget, and what a transformation he had taken. You see on that night he looked like a right scruffy tramp, white as a sheet, hardly any teeth, he looked like he was on sponsored 'spot grow', and walked with a limp as he had arthritis in his leg. But when I saw him a few years later, he'd smartened himself right up to the point where I didn’t even recognise him, and his limp at gone

Anyway, back to the story .............

I'd heard in Philmores that night that there was an all-nighter on called Nocturnal. It was a 12,000 capacity rave that had all the top Dj's on and it was held in a huge marquee tent in a field somewhere outside Cramlington.

Now being 'off my box', finding it seemed like a good idea, the only problem was I didn’t have a £25 ticket to the event, nobody knew who the hell G-Force was apart from me :D , so there was no way I could blagg it, and I didn’t have a car to get there, which from Saltburn was fookin miles away.

Enter John and Jimmy ............

Now John was smashed in the club, as was Jimmy, so they were easy meat for my persuasive patter. I convinced them inside the club that we should leave Philmores and go looking for this rave, as this way we could party all-night. And luckily for me, they were that wrecked they didn’t even ask how we would get into the Nocturnal, thank Fook, because at that particular time, I didnt have a fookin clue.

We jumped into John's Escort and proceeded to drive out of Saltburn, and headed somewhere North, we figured that would be the best bet as that’s where we all thought Cramlington was.

I remember coming out of Saltburn, and John, who was driving, stamping on the brakes. I asked him why he'd nearly just sent me crashing through the front window ?

His reply ' I thought I was going to hit that white horse'

Of course there was no white horse, John had just decided he'd start 'tripping' at 70 miles an hour, I shiit it, but he was absolutely off his box, in fact he was off someone else’s box he was that fooked.

After that we had a poll who should drive, now I wasn’t confident at all, I didn’t have my licence, and Jimmy, although he said he could drive a bit  had a dodgy left leg. We decided in our 'ecstasy wisdom' that Jimmy would drive, and I would sit in the passenger seat and reach over with my right leg and control the brake !!

Thinking back that was madness, but at the time, it seemed a like a bloody good plan, those 'Callys' have a lot to answer for.

We managed to get out of Saltburn alive and continued on some motorway north. We stopped off at a 24 hour garage on route and picked up a map to Cramlington. I dont know why, because I read maps like a girl at the best of times, they mean fook all to me, and in my state at that time, I didnt have a hope in hell. Jimmy was driving, but I doubt if he could even spell map, never mind read the fooker !! And John, well he was seeing horses for fooks sake.

Now John, he said he was feeling better, and decided he would drive us the rest of the way, which was fine until he saw another white horse as we were flying down this motorway. I remember us leaving our side of the road and ploughing across the central reservation at about 80 mph

We ended up on the other side of the motorway, and it was a good job it was daft o'clock in the morning and there were no oncoming cars
otherwise I wouldn’t be here today telling you this story.

Anyway, somehow we survived, by the grace of God, but to be honest thats about the 3rd time thats happened to me over the years, someone is definately looking after me somewhere, thank fook.

I'm sure Jimmy Liggett actually shit himself right there and then  although I must admit, it was hard to tell as I think he pretty much stunk from the moment I met him.

Anyway, somehow we managed to find the event, hidden away, (and definately not on the map, I checked that map at least a million fooking times,) in some bloody field in the middle of fooking no-where, and anybody thats been to 'fooking no-where' will know exactly what I mean.

By this time there was only about an hour to go of the rave, but it was still a little dark, and I can remember hearing the MC from the road where we parked lighting up the sky, at least he did for me, it sounded awesome.

I could see the lazers coming through this huge, 'fook-off' size marque, and the crowd were screaming, air-horns were blaring, the tunes were pounding, it was absolute bedlam, the place was seriously fucking kicking, 8 thousand ravers going beserk, but I couldnt see it. FOOK !!

We needed to get in, but the security looked very tight from the front and the fencing around the perimeter was doubled and 6 foot high, there was no way you were climbing over them without being seen, we needed a plan and quick  this was my 'Graceland' in there, like Elvis needed his home, I needed mine, and at that time, that rave was my home, apart from the fact I had to break into the fooker !!

I'm not sure if the place had guard dogs, thinking now they probably didnt, it just seems like that now, because at the time it seemed it would be easier to break into Durham Prison.

They did have this large walkway that you had to walk up to get to the entrance and the portable ticket offices and entrance gates. This was quite a long walkway, narrow but long with 6 foot fencing on either side, probably designed for the queues when the rave started, quite handy at the time I guess for them, but shite for us. There was no-way we could even walk up to get to the outer fencing to even attempt to climb over, without been seen walking up this frickin walkway, fook again.

Jimmy G-Force
29th November 2005, 12:53 AM
I tend to think best, when I need something the most, and I needed to get in that tent, and as if by magic, or 'E', this idea popped into my head. I figured the best way to get in would be to come in from the back of the rave site's perimeter fencing, I could see that they were some heavy goods lorries in there, and plenty of them, obviously what the rave organisers used to cart everything they needed for the rave to this fookin field in the middle of 'fooking no-where'. :D They looked like a good place for cover as we climbed over the fence, assuming we got that far of course.

So that was the plan, I figured that if we went far enough to the right hand side of this rave site’s perimeter so as not to be seen, we could then walk up the adjoining field for about a ¼ of a mile, turn back left so we are behind the rave, so we'd be in the field, in the dark, the on all fours, on our stomachs, sniper, yes I did say fooking sniper, up to the back of the rave till we get to the fencing then climb over with the lorries for cover.

It was a very good idea at the time, or at least better than letting Jimmy Liggett drive Johns car whilst I applied the fookin brakes anyway. :D

So we ran like your nose after too much coke, at fast as we could to the back of this field and started to crawl to the back of the rave site.

Now this was the strangest thing yet, as we started crawling down, I was leading the way, I mean I was keen as fook, it sounded like nothing I'd heard before and I was dying to get in. So I make no excuses for leaving a semi -cripple like Jimmy Liggett behind whilst I seeked my destiny. John was a short arse anyway so he was never gonna keep up with me, and I'm quite a nippy fella anyway, and even more so then, especially off my nut with a dream in sight. :D

Anyway as I was crawling on all fours, in the dark knowing John and Jimmy were somewhere behind me, I took a little break, and I kid you not, another 4 different lads, pulled up of all fours next to me.

They must have somehow seen us outside the rave, been in the same boat, followed us, without us even knowing, crawled up behind us, overtaken Jimmy and John with probably a swift 'Now then' and caught up with me !!

It was a fooking shock I can tell you, wasnt expecting those kids to crawl up next to me, but we said our 'now then, no ticket either mate' thing, and made our way to the fencing, but his time the place was nearly closing, but I needed to get in, even for the last few minutes, so I made my move. ;)

As I crawled closer, the night sky seemed to be getting lighter, which was a nightmare, for where I was once invisible to the lights of the rave site I would soon be visible to the guards. I made my move, left everyone behind, it was survival of the fittest, and I aint carrying no short arse and smelly bloke with a limp, no-way, fookin hose-a- !!

I got to the fence, climbed over in a shot, in fact I think I probably hurdled the fooker, the addrenalin was pumping, but the music was far louder, and pumping harder, and I can here the MC say ' sounds of DJ Rap'.

Fuckin Mint !! I hid behind a lorry, I could see a security guard so I rolled underneath the truck until he passed. Then in a flash, I jumped from under the truck and I dashed to one of the portaloo's, somehow I thought If I came out of there I'd be safe, anyway, whilst I was in there I had cheeky line of whizz, and made my way into the tent, for the last tune of the night.

I'd done it, I'd got in, although I was the only one, John got caught and Jimmy couldnt climb the fence with his dodgy leg, pity really the poor fucker nearly died getting here, crawled half a mile in a muddy field, and somehow lost his top and one of his shoes, fookin class.

( I cant stop laughing writing this )

I walked into the tent, paranoid someone was going to know I hadnt paid, like that was possible ? but that sharp went and the music and atmosphere hit me, it was awesome and I knew right then, someday that had to be me standing up there on stage.

The crowd went mad as MC Bjam, someone who I later hired for the Eclipse and After Dark with his brother Smokey Joe, they made loads of noise for Dj Rap, who, by the way is the most beautiful female DJ, I have ever seen.

She dropped 'You got the love' by Candi Staton, a real classic old skool tune and the place went crazy, as did I, I danced my little muddy socks off.

After the song finished that was it, little gutted it was over as I'd only just arrived, although in a sense I was just about to arrive. :)

I managed to follow DJ Rap when she got off stage, I walked up to her like a girl at a take that concert. and said great 'set', she smiled and said thanks, I actually meant her tits that were breaking out of her short cropped top, I'd only real heard half the set as I crawled across the field, so it was unfair for me to give her my opinion on her performance on the decks.

Anyway, I met up with Jimmy and John outside, told them they had missed a great night :D and we went home.

5 months later I did my first big outdoor rave, the Galactica at York or Ripon Racecourse, one of the other, in front of 12,000 people, and 17 years old, madness. And yes, I did get better. :D

The club was called Phillmores mate, it was at the bottom of Saltburn bank, it was Jase Bushbys first place, and honestly, I still rate it the best place ever, and thats some statement bearing in mind everything I've been lucky enough to do. ;)

I'm definatley there boxing day, looking forward to it, cant wait, its like I'm 17 again :D might see If I can track down John and Jimmy Liggett to come. :D

I took me ages to write that story, but I knew you would all enjoy it, so it was well worth it, still pissing myself now reading through it. :D

Funny enough, quite a few years after Philmores the club had shut down, a couple of my dodgy mates from that time decided they would break into the club as it had been left deserted for years. They wanted to steal the air-raid siren out of there that Jase used when he kicked off the night, as mentioned in an earlier post. They couldnt find the siren, but after searching behind the back of the chairs/sofas in there, they found about 3 fella's.

Now these were the 'real deal' pills, pure MDMA, and I remember the same lads coming to the After Dark in Sunderland the day after, they had come into the club with the pills, and I offered one of the lads £50 for one, as I knew how unbelievable they would be, but he refused, but I dont really blame him to be honest.

Anyway later that night I saw them, and they were completely 'loved up', I remember MC'ing on stage and catching sight of them on the dancefloor, and honest to god, they stood out a mile compared to everyone else in the place, they really did take a trip back in time that night the lucky fookers !!:D and it was clear as day that they were on a completely different buzz and planet to everyone else in the club, fook, those were the days. :)

Glad you enjoyed the story, thanks again for the kind words. ;)

Glad you enjoyed the story, thanks again for the kind words. ;)

With respect

Thats probably it mate, the capacity was maybe about 900, it had two floors, both rocked non-stop, it wasnt a massive place, but the atmosphere was legendary.

But it was very popular to the point where you would be refused entry when it got too full, I've seen hundreds of people outside at times unable to get in

Jimmy, its Gaz !! :)

Hows you mate ??

Loved the your last story pal, i was peeing myself laughing :D :D at work reading about the white horses when Jimmy was driving the car .. funny as !!

You just cannot beat those old skool days .. thats when rave was rave for me!!

I only went to Big Beat twice, but the atmosphere was electric and when Jase dropped 'Rofo's Theme at 12, the place took off and that siren noise was legendary. I can remember talking to someone from Ireland, who had heard about the night back home.

Referring to an earlier post, I can understand how that guy felt about meeting you for the first time :D . Got to say I was no different, as you now know i used to collect every G-Force tape going from back in the day. But the first time i first proper met you was in the chill out room at AfterDark think it was the Bank Holiday when Dream Frequency were live on stage. I had butterflies from head to toe meeting my hero :)

What are you best memories of the AfterDark in Sunderland ??

Keep em coming fella !!!

just read this thread now and i can not fuckin believe it i have been listening to rave music for a good 13 years now and my tape collection stops at about 2001 most tapes are from 95-99 with a quite a few later tapes from the hanger 2. The reason my collection stops there is this is were the new breed of mcs started to come through !

how shite i mean a lad before said !

small events like tha hangar and monkey and powerhouse>>?
how are these small events infront of 1300 people mate?
explain ur theory

when had there been 1300 people in the fucking monkey every time i have been its shite and theres a couple of hundred people !

not or never will be in the same class as the colo and afterdark !

the old mcs and djs are total legends ! the new mcs will never be mainly cause they sounds so simlilar and talk about how hard life is mcing to 30 people ahh poor lads

am sure if there we two events on one old school and one new kids on the block

i no which one would be packed to the fucking rafters !

The DJS are legends The MCs are legends and so was the music ! now the musics shite too !

get a fucking grip saying g-force is shite !

ALL THE OLD SCHOOL BOYS ROCKED THE FUCKIN BOAT ON BOXING DAY

RESPECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This line was actually made up after Eric Kung Fu kicked that Crystal Palace supporter in the head. :8403:

I remember there being some wicked tune playing in the club, a proper anthem, and it was on the breakdown, It sounded lovely so I give it a 'Ooo Laa-laa, then as the beat was getting ready to kick back in, I timed a 'Party people I want to see you kicking higher than Eric Cantona' lol, refering to his high kick on that fan in the crowd. :8403:

Your right, he is being over-hyped, in saying that he may turn out to be the real deal, but need to see him in with a decent fighter and see how he takes a good shot on the whiskers before I can make a proper judgement.

He has all the skills, moves and technique, but Pro boxing is a million miles away from the amatuers, so we'll see how he goes when he gets moved up in class.

And Purdy, your right, it is in the blood, and I'll always be around, just at the big gigs though.

He has all the skills, moves and technique, but Pro boxing is a million miles away from the amatuers, so we'll see how he goes when he gets moved up in class.

AI A AGREE LIKE A FINK HIM AND KEVIN MITCHELL WUD BE A GOOD FIGHT LIEK THEN WE WUD GET 2 SEE HOW HE IS AND IF HE CAN REALLY PUT UP WITH WHAT PPL HYPE HIM AS COZ THEY DUN THE SAME WITH NASEEM HAMED BUT THEYVE PUT AMIR KHAN HYPED UP TO EARLY IMO MATE .. COZ IT HAPPENED WITH NASEEM HAMED .. ALL THIS CONFIDENCE BUILT HIM UP TO BE A GOOD BOXER THEN ONCE HE GOT KNOCKED OUT IT WAS OVER ...

WHERES HE NOW .... HAHA (Y)

haha! Jimmy G-Force is an absolute legend not only in the north-east scene but also all over the country and has MC'd at events 20 times the size of the ones you get these days. He was probably one of the first north east MCs so full respect to him for still doing it now. He is also a really down-to-earth bloke - sound as fuck.
I remember the first time i ever did a set on the mic at the hangar and it was into the last hour of the night it was Jimmy's set. I'd already done my set and was having a drink with my pal Swanny (Hype), Swanny had had a fair bit to drink and decided that i should go back on the mic but i was saying no cos Jimmy was on and, lets face it, who was i to jump up and ask for a go?? But anyway Swanny managed to drag me up to the stage with him and plugged another mic in with Jimmy's and passed it to me, i felt like a right tit and asked Jimmy if it was ok and he nodded and said, "Yeah no bother" and i got to go b2b with him for a bit which was a pure buzz for me as he was one of the MCs who i'd listened to since i was a nipper. Jimmy might not be able to remember that but thats one of those things i'll always remember and respect him for cos he could have easily told me to fuck off. That made my night really cos i'd done my first proper mic set at the hangar and i'd got to go b2b with G-Force, buzzin!

So you see, there is always method to my, sometimes seeming madness. lol.

So if your all sitting comfortably, then we'll begin ......

--------------------------- 'The Big Blag' ---------------------------------

Thinking back now, and trying to establish exactly when this happened, it was probably not that long after my mission with John and Jimmy Liggett and the whole Nocturnal thing I have mentioned earlier.

The reason I know this, is because it was actually just before we opened the Eclipse in Stockton, so I guess I would have still classed myself as a 'raver' as this point, and what happened on this particular night I will never, ever forget as long as I live.

I remember Stevie Lloyd, who was the guy who leased out the Eclipse in Stockton, asking me to go to the Rezerection in Newcastle, it was held at the Mayfair, and thinking back now, it must have been one of the very last events there before they moved the whole show to Scotland.

Stevie knew pretty much nothing about rave, all he knew was that there was definately a market for an all-nighter in the North East, and he wanted to be the first man to do it. Luckily for me, he also liked what I did on the Mic, which wasnt very much If I'm honest, but still, I was keen as fuck and only to happy to get involved in such an exciting project, especially as it meant I was the club's only MC, and had the running of the place, although the running of it came a little bit later.

Anyway, Stevie mentioned about the Rezerection in Newcastle, and thought it would be a good idea for me to go up there, with some flyers ( We had just got our first set printed prior to our opening night ) and kinda spread the word, get some contact numbers from any live P.A's or Top Dj's/MC's that we could hopefully book for our new club.

Obviously I was right up for it, the chance to rub shoulders with the big hitters of the rave scene, meet them and introduce myself, but once again, I didnt have a ticket, although I did have some people to get a lift up there with, which was the hardest part sorted. At 17 years old, keen as mustard, and a bag full of flyers, I knew I could blagg my way into anywhere, Rezer-fuckin-Rection included. :566:

My plan was to get to Newcastle with some friends I knew from going
raving at the Club Havanna in Middlesbrough. My allies on this particular night were Tony Pagenelli, his sister Michelle ( who was fucking gorgeous by the way ) and their coke-head uncle Pete, who at 40 years old, was the biggest and oldest wreckhead I'd ever met. :5430:

I got myself a fiver rap of speed and Pete drove us up to Newcastle in his clapped out Fiesta.Apparently, he previously owned a lovely Jaguar, and had a great job, but he decided to quit his job for a life as cokehead, and traded in the Jag, then blew the rest of the money on sniff, not a bad trade I can remember thinking :566: but as long as I got to Newcastle I couldnt have cared less what we drove up in, I'd have let him piggyback my excited ass up there that night. :566:

I remember getting to Newcastle ok and being stood outside in the queue with my mates, and me being the only one without a ticket, but a minor complication like that wasnt going to stop me getting the fuck in, Nocturnal couldnt stop me, and I'm damn sure Rezerection werent going to stop me either. lol.

As the queue started to shorten, and we moved closer to the entrance, I remember pulling the flyers out of my plastic bag, I hardly looked the high class promoter I was going to try and pass myself off as, no posh leather briefcase, just some fucking cheap Aldi plaggy bag full of flyers, for a club that hadnt even opened yet. lol.

But it was worth as shot, it had to be. :39: :541:

As we got closer to the bouncers and the entrance, I distinctly remember Pete giving me joint, but it wasnt dope, oh no, it was my first experience of smoking coke in a joint. You see Pete did everything with coke, if you couldnt sniff it smoke it, if you couldnt smoke it eat it, Fuck me, I think he even wore the fucking stuff, then again, it may have been dandruff. :566:

Anyway, it gave me a wicked little buzz and all I needed to help me blag my way into the Rez. :541:

Now I must admit, I wouldnt even dream about doing anything like that now, but when your young, daft, keen and whizzed up, you'll give anything a bash, and so I did, and it worked a fucking treat I kid you not. :541:

As I got to the door it was like the scene from Human Traffic, for those of you who have never seen that film it is one of my all time favourites, and the most accurate depictation of the rave scene to date, you need to see it.

For those of you who have seen it, you'll know what I'm on about, it was the part where he blagged his way into the club without a ticket, and spoke to the big black guy, the manager, who ironically, was played by Carl Cox.

Now Carl Cox certainly wasnt the manager of the Mayfair that night, but funnily enough, he was on the bill, but more of that later. :39:

Anyway, I told them I was representing the Eclipse, and pulled a flyer out of my plaggy bag to show him, lol, and that I had been invited down from somebody who ran Rezerection called Dave ( I figured that was a common name and somebody within the Rez organisation must be called Dave, lol. )
to discuss future bookings and potentially working with them side by side.

The blagg worked a treat and I was in, and check this fucker, only given a backstage pass as well, get in you beauty !!! He who who dares Rodders, he who fucking dares !! :541: :566:

As I got in the place, and the main room, I split up from my friends, well, after all, I had a freakin backstage pass, and they had served their purpose of getting me there, now it was all about me and rockstar Dj's and MC's. lol.

I couldnt believe my eyes when I noticed my idol MC Man Parris on the stage, accompanied by MC Hardcore General, two of the biggest names, if not the biggest MC names in the country, at the time there wasnt that many about you see, and those two boys certainly ruled the manor, no fuckin question.

I hadnt actually seen the flyer, so I didnt really know who was on, but those two for starters made my night before it really even started, but it was to get a whole lot better, and something that will live with me for the rest of my life. :39:

Aye, where lucky to have such talented entertainers in our scene,

when i 1st heard rave tapes, 'back in the colosseum days' when i first
properly got into the music, I 'honestly' thought there were pretending to mc/dj up there up on the stage, because of the perfection of the act there were doing.

(i thought there where spending weeks perfecting it, and then just playing
the tape to the crowd, like miming LOL)

christ i didn't have the foggiest back them like.

And it also highlights what a great friend and bloke Davey Mall is. :17432:

Hi Chris,

Yeah I go to quite a few boxing shows, mainly the Manchester fighters whom I've become friends with over the years, Rick, Jamie Moore, Stephen Bell and alike. I love my boxing, been fanatical since I was 12, quite a long time now, but still as keen as ever.

I actually had ringside press passes for Mickys fight with Esham Pickering for the European title, but something came up with my son and I couldnt go. I gave the pass to my brother though who went down and covered the fight for Saddo's, he loved it.

To be honest I'd never seen Micky as world class, probably European at best. But he has come on quite alot, and with his heart, guts and determination, it will take a top fighter to beat him I think, especially in Hartlepool.

I've not seen much of Steve Molitor, so I guess it all depends on how 'cute' and slick he is. I'd still give the edge to Hunter though on home soil, he just keeps bringing it all night, and like I said earlier, he's going to be a tough kid to beat, and he has the momentum and the fire right now.

Might see if I can get down to this one Chris.:541:
