SoundCloud is having a tough time at the moment and it is about to get a whole lot worse. Earlier this month we reported that the streaming service has been forced to roll out ads to help fund the licensing deals. However, it looks like it’s too little too late as Performing Rights Society for Music (PRS), a group that represents musicians and publishers in the UK, is suing SoundCloud for failing to obtain the proper license to host PRS members’ music on its platform. PRS announced this morning that the decision to take legal action came after “five years of unsuccessful negotiations.”

This could be the final nail in the coffin for SoundCloud so you may want to think about using another service to host your music. So, if you are a DJ, where do you go from here?

We have found the perfect alternative: Hearthis.at

hearthis.at

At first glance, Hearthis.at looks like a SoundCloud clone… which isn’t a bad thing, because of the similarities anybody comfortable with SoundCloud will feel right at home with Hearthis.at. All what is good on Soundcloud is on Hearthis.at! But dig a little further and you will find that it is far more than a SoundCloud copy.

Unlike, SoundCloud you can upload as many mixes or tracks that you want, but are limited to 10,000 plays or 5,000 downloads. If you are just starting out this is more than enough. If you think you need a little extra you can upgrade to a premium account for €19 (£13.93) which allows 20,000 plays or 10,000 downloads.

If you want the VIP treatment the UNLIMITED package is a mere €29 (£21.26) which promises top positions in search results and the Artist category page, you can choose your own bit rates and customise your profile/waveforms in a way that is just not possible with SoundCloud.

  • top position in search results
  • top position on Artists category page
  • WAV, AIF, M4A, AAC, OGG file support
  • choose between 96, 128, 192, 256, 320 kbit/s or original play quality
  • disable automatic playlist tagging
  • completly ad free

Despite the interface feeling a little clunky in places it is lightening fast, we believe this is the best alternative to SoundCloud. Give it a go and let us know what you think!
